2012 Earth Day in the Park

Modesto's 2011Earth Day in the Park was a great success! With the cooperation of great weather, several thousand people strolled through the park throughout the day visiting vendor booths, enjoying the free entertainment in the Mancini Bowl and sampling great food.

The Boyett Petroleum "B Green Recycling Event " event drew a total of 204 vehicles who donated 1.68 tons of e-waste and plastic and tons of paper. All materials were recycled and the dollars were matched by Boyett Petroleum in support of Modesto’s first dog park. Also, Friends of Modesto Dog Park raised over $5,000 for the pending project! Maybe best of all, 7 dogs and 5 cats were adopted from the shelters to new homes throughout the day!

The free bike corral was widely used and riders were invited to enter to win free ticket books to the Modesto Nuts. Approximately 300 lbs of organic waste was collected from the food vendor area. It was sent to the city’s compost facility for processing. The 2011 Earth Day in the Park theme was "What Footprint? That’s Earth Day!” Attendees learned about the many ways they can reduce their carbon footprint in our community by making simple changes to their everyday lifestyle.
