James Miguel - Biography
James Miguel became Modesto’s Fire Chief in October 2002. Chief Miguel has a long and dedicated history
with the City of Modesto as he began his career here as a Firefighter and quickly made his way to Engineer,
Captain and Battalion Chief. His passion for community service lead him to also serve as Fire Investigator,
Deputy Fire Marshal and Department Training Officer.
Chief Miguel holds an Associate of Science degree in Fire Science, a Bachelor of Arts degree in Fire
Administration and a Master of Science degree in Executive Leadership. He is also a graduate of the National
Fire Academy’s Fire Officer Program. For the past several years, Chief Miguel has served as the Area Director
for the California Fire Chiefs Association.
