City Seeking Volunteers to Serve on New Entertainment Commission

The City of Modesto is seeking seven citizens to volunteer for the City’s new Entertainment Commission. The Commission is responsible for the following:

  1. Accept, review, and gather information and conduct hearing upon applications for entertainment permits and special event permits;
  2. Impose conditions upon issuance or renewal of all entertainment permits consistent with the applicable laws and regulations;
  3. The ability to suspend and revoke permits or withdrawal permits;
  4. The authority to review and approve special event applications for the coordination of the provision of City services for special event permits, and
  5. Review fines pertaining to this ordinance.

The Entertainment Commission’s purpose is to encourage the development of new entertainment businesses as well as assist the organizers and operators to plan and coordinate City services for major events. This will allow a business or event to flourish and at the same time meet the City’s public health, safety and welfare needs.

The Modesto Entertainment Commission will consist of seven members who will be appointed by the City Council based on recommendations by the City Council Safety and Communities Committee. The term of a commissioner will be four years, with the election of a chairperson annually for a term of one year. The Commission will meet, as needed, the first and third Tuesday of each month at Tenth Street Place, 1010 Tenth Street.

Interested in becoming part of the Modesto Entertainment Commission?  Applications may be requested from the City Manager’s Office at 1010 Tenth Street, Suite 6100, by phone at (209) 571-5101, or by applying online at: http://www.modestogov.com/council/cag/cag.asp?id=26.

Applications are reviewed as vacancies occur and are maintained for at least one year.
